Project Description

Title: Hypertextuality in Ezra Pound’s Italian and Pisan Cantos
Supervisor(s): Louis Menand
Date Begun: Spring, 1996

Degree: Ph.D.
Format: HTML CD-ROM

Description:

This is a dissertation in two parts: a cd-rom presentation of the two cantos Pound wrote in Italian, plus the parts of the Pisan Cantos that Professor Ronald Bush's new research now indicates were greatly informed by the work Pound had done on the Italian cantos. The cd-rom will be useful both as a teaching companion to the text and as an illustration of how well this material lends itself to an electronic format. The second part of the dissertation will be a long essay describing my theoretical position vis-a-vis the poetry and how Pound's embrace of the fascist aesthetic relates to the non-linear, multi-dimensional kind of work he produced, and how this can be related to hypertext. Evenutally, I do intend to provide links to websites on the cd-rom, and would include this one as well.
