Description:

I am examining the philosophical assumptions made by various linguistic theorists concerning the nature of language and language users. Several recent works in linguistics advocate using 'an eclectic approach' to linguistic analys is, and I believe that it is important to evaluate whether the various theories one may be using to describe a language are saying contradictory things about the object of analysis.
