EAF Author: Anne Newport Royall (1769-1854)
Travel writer Anne Newport Royall married in 1797 William Royall, the Virginia farmer who raised her. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, making her living writing on her experiences. Royal's works include Sketches of History, Life and Manners in the United States (published anonymously); The Tennessean: A Novel; and the three-volume The Black Book; or, A Continuation of Travels in the United States.
