EAF Author: Charles Graham Halpine (1829-1868)

Charles Graham Halpine, was born in County Meath, Ireland, in 1829. He graduated from Trinity College in Dublin in 1846, and came to the United States in 1852. In America, Halpine pursued a career as a journalist. He joined the Federal army and served throughout the Civil War, until he resigned in 1864. He was brevetted Brigadier General of Volunteers. After the war, Halpine edited the New York Citizen. Halpine drew on his Civil War experiences to write a number of books under the pseudonym Private Miles O'Reilly. He died August 3, 1868.
