Emerson Bennett was born in 1822 in Massachusetts, though he later resided in Philadelphia. Bennett produced over 50 novels, mostly romances more popular with the general public than with critics of literature. These novels include The Bandits of the Osage, Kate Clarendon, The Prairie Flower, and The League of the Miami.
