George William Bagby was born in Virginia in 1828. He graduated from the medical department of the University of Pennsylvania. Doctor Bagby is better known to the literary world as "Moses Adams," the name under which he wrote various novels and sketches. Bagby served as State Librarian in his native Virginia from 1870-1878.
