Richard Henry Dana, Sr., poet and journalist, was one of the founders of the North American Review. In 1821 he began The Idle Man periodical, in which were published two of his novels: Tom Thornton and Paul Felton. His later publications include The Buccaneer, and Other Poems; Poems and Prose Writings. Dana is also known for his critical lectures on Shakespeare.
