EAF Author: Theodore Winthrop (1828-1861)

Theodore Winthrop, a descendant of Massachusetts governor John Winthrop, was born in Connecticut. After graduating from Yale, he traveled to Panama and other locations throughout the Americas. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Winthrop enlisted in the Federal army. He was killed at the battle of Big Bethel, Virginia, in 1861.
