EAF Author: Washington Allston (1779-1843)

Washington Allston, an artist and lecturer on art as well as a poet, was a native of South Carolina and a noted conversationalist. He lived for a time in London, where he studied at the Royal Academy, and in Rome, where he knew Coleridge. Works include The Sylphs of the Seasons and other Poems (1813) and Monaldi (written ca. 1821, published anonymously 1841).
