Virginia Gazette
(Rind), Williamsburg ,
May 31, 1770.

COMMITTED to the gaol of Chesterfield county, two Negro men; one of them named BEN, a low squat fellow, who seems to be between 40 & 50 years of age, with a grey beard; the other named HARRY, a tall slim black fellow; they both say they belong to William Smith, but can give no account where they came from, or how long they have been out. Neither of them can speak but very few words in English so as to be understood. The owner is desired to prove his property, pay charges, and fetch them away.
JAMES BALL, Gaoler.
