FROM DR. HOWARD A. KELLY

DR. ROBERT L. DICKINSON
100 CLINTON STREET, BROOKLYN
NEW YORK
23 Nov "06
Dear Kelly:

The cockles of our hearts are tingling
still with your good words. On many, many
men you made a lasting impression. We
shall long say: "That was the year of
the Reed dinner when Kelly spoke."

Now some of the grief, and the
glory -- and what is important, some
of the stimulus to sweet and Christian
life in a scientist, touching the lives
of his successors in a work -- some
of this belongs to us of Brooklyn
Hospital. Here is an extract from
the minutes of the Board of Trustees,
showing that Reed was our interne ,
and here made the impression of Dr.
Hutchinson of which you speak on
page 10. I am wondering if in
future Editions you could alter line
6 of page 10. Where can we
have made an enlargement for our
alumni to present to the hospital?

    Dr. H. J. Kelly
Baltimore

Yours gratefully

Dickinson

FROM DR. HOWARD A. KELLY
Extract from minutes of Trustees
of what is now called Brooklyn Hospital.

"Brooklyn City Hospital,
Sept 30, 1871.

At a regular meeting of the Board of
Trustees ..... the President presented
a certificate of Examination from the
Medical Staff recommending the
appointment of Dr. Walter Reed, M.D.
as Resident Physician, which was
accepted on motion. The
appointment was confirmed, to
date from Aug. 1, 1871."

    Dr. J.C. Hutchison, Brooklyn's
leading surgeon, who befriended
Dr. Reed, did most of his
work at this institution, and
is likely to have just known
Reed here, and from this
knowledge, gotten him his
Health Board appointment.
