   You will herewith enclos'd receive a Commission appointing youSecretary to our Minister Plenipotentiary at the Court of Versailles. (1)

   Also a Letter of Credence to his most Christian Majesty for yourIntroduction in Case of the death of the Minister plenipotentiary when itwill be incumbent upon you to take Charge of our Affairs at that Courtagreable to the tenor of your Commission.

   The nature and Importance of the business with which you areintrusted evinces the propriety of entering upon the Service without delay.

    I am Sir with great Respect, your humble Servant,
