Monticello -- Monday, August 7. [1826]
Dear Sir,

    Mr Jefferson Randolph tells me that it will be a convenience to you to pay me $250, -- on acct of the University, instead of remitting that amo. to Boston: if so, will you be so good as to pay the money to the bearer, Mr Trist, who will hand you the annexed receipt. Very truly, Yr friend, & Obt Sevt

    Received of Mr Alex. Garrett, Bursar of the University of Va. Two Hundred and fifty dollars; which amo. is to be repaid in Boston to Mr Simon Willard, in part for Clock & Bill ordered of him for use of Va. University, by its late Rector, Thos Jefferson.
