In the morning we again took up the line of march towardWinchester, arrived at Newtown about 12 o'clock and passed onthrough [unclear: 22] miles, where we stayed some twohours, while the Artillery and Cavalry were engaging theenemy, we got into the fight about half hour by [illeg.]where we remained until dark being twice repulsed by theenemy, this happened on the 23rd (March 1862), when we leftthe field in good order and fell back 4 miles and stayed allnight.
