Hours and Location

Part of the Digital Research and Instructional Services Lab, The Electronic Text Center is located in the Scholars' Lab on floor 4 West of Alderman Library on the University of Virginia central grounds. Our Lab is open whenever Alderman Library is open. The information desk is staffed between 8 am - 8 pm Monday - Thursday and 8 am - 6 pm Friday.

Getting to Alderman Library

Travelling East Or West On Interstate 64:

  • Take Exit 118B, which is marked "North 29" and "To Route 250"
  • Take second exit, onto Business Route 250 East, where you will pass UVa Visitor Center (University Police) on your right (maps and parking information available here).

To Visitor Parking:

  • For nearby parking garage, turn right at the third traffic light onto Emmet Street, putting tennis courts on your left.
  • Pass large building on your left (Memorial Gym) and turn left into parking garage.

If Garage is Full:

  • If the parking garage is full, you will need to seek public parking on the street or in the "Corner" district near the University
  • Turn around and retrace steps back to the stoplight.
  • Turn right at light onto University Avenue. Tennis Courts will be on your right.
  • On-street parking on the right is FREE for two-hours, if there is any available.
  • OR, continue straight up University Avenue, pass Alderman Library (first building on right) and continue through the stoplight ahead (Rugby & McCormick Roads).
  • First "Corner" option: Turn left at the second left after the stoplight, then right into public parking lot.
  • Second "Corner" option: Take the next left (third after stoplight) onto Elliewood Ave. A small garage is on the right.
  • Third "Corner" option: Go to the next light and turn left onto 14th Street. Take next right and then right into a public garage.

Travelling South On Route 29

  • Continue South on Route 29 past several miles of shopping centers and businesses until you pass under the Route 250 bypass.
  • At the fifth traffic light, the Cavalier Inn will be on your right.

To Visitor Parking:

  • For nearby parking garage, continue south on Route 29 (Emmet Street) under the fifth traffic light. Tennis courts will be on your left.
  • Pass large building on your left (Memorial Gym) and turn left into parking garage.

If Garage is Full:

  • If the parking garage is full, you will need to seek public parking on the street or in the "Corner" district near the University
  • Turn around and retrace steps back to the stoplight.
