On ordinary 19th c. scrap paper about 8 1/2 cm x 15 1/2 cm. Ink medium brown.

Provenance

Most of the ms. were once the property of Richard Maurice Bucke, one of Whitman's literary executors; they were sold in London in 1935, and then sold in NY in 1936 by order of Dr. Jacob Schwartz. I believe this is when they were purchased by Dr. and Mrs. Trent, who subsequently gave them to the library.
