WED. 1/24 — 2 Symbolic Women: A Greek Slave This link will take you to a page in another website. When you get there, first study the sculpture on your own, including the enlargements of details, and see what it "says" to you. Then read the text on the page, then read the first six articles from the list of links at the bottom of the page, and think about what Americans in 1847 "saw" when they looked at the statue. When you've done that, close the window and come back to this page for the second half of the day's assignment... A French Statue This link goes to a page in a different website. You'll recognize this statue immediately. Before you read the page, spend a couple minutes thinking about what it already means to you. Then read the text on this page, including all the linked elements on it (when you get to the National Park Service Guide, you can use the "Contents" link to go directly to section a) Liberty Enlightening the World, which is the only part of the guide I'll require you to read, but feel free to read the rest of the guide too!). Then close the window, but keep open the question of what the statue means. |
