I am taking the course on electronic texts at the Rare Books School at the University of Viriginia. This is my first attempt to create a homepage.
I am enjoying the class a lot and learning a lot about SGML.
Each student encoded a manuscript which can be viewed at:
When I return to Brown I will be discussing the SGML header and its relationship to the MARC format with the staff of the Women Writers Project, 1330-1830.
One benefit of attending RBS is to spend time on the UVA campus which is rather beautiful. I am quite taken by the architecture of the early 19th century.
I also had a chance to drive a bit around the County.
The surrounding landscape resembles some parts of France, namely Burgundy and the Rhone valley.
I have sampled some of the delicacies offered by the restaurants in Charlottesville.
RBS has several friends at Brown University.
The Director of the Brown University Library, Merrily Taylor and the Head of Special Collections, Sam Streit have taught courses on managing special collections.
The Rare Books Cataloger, Richard Noble, is a former staff member of the Rare Books School.
